1 person killed in crash that closed I-91 South in Windsor Locks for several hours

One person was killed in a crash that closed Interstate 91 South for several hours on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 1:20 p.m. in the area of Exit 40, according to state police.

Two pickup trucks were driving in the right lane of I-91 when the second pickup veered off the highway and then back into the lane, hitting the first pickup, state police said. The second pickup then when back off the highway and into the grass where it rolled over.

The driver of the second pickup, identified as 38-year-old James Dennis Macpherson, of Manchester, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A passenger in Macpherson's pickup suffered minor injuries. The driver of the other pickup was not injured, according to police.
