Irene may be long gone, but her effects are still causing hundreds of cancellations around Connecticut.
Dozens of schools that were were supposed to begin classes Monday, instead kept students home. Many schools were without power, as were the families of students. Other areas still have impassible roads, making it impossible for buses to drive their routes.
Madison, which was orginally supposed to begin classes Monday, has postpned the first day of school until Tuesday, Sept. 6. Montville delayed its opening until Thrusday.

The Crystal Mall in Waterford, which had been closed Monday morning, opened again just after 1 p.m., but the Westfield Trumbull Mall remained closed.
Connecticut's State Parks received damage during the storm, and have been closed since Saturday afternoon. They will reopen on a case by case basis after they can be cleaned up, according to Gov. Dannel Malloy.
