Man accused of killing 2-year-old son, 19-year-old girlfriend in West Haven held on $3 million bond

A man accused of killing his 2-and-a-half-year-old son and his 19-year-old girlfriend in West Haven over the weekend appeared in court on Tuesday after being released from the hospital.

Police found the little boy and the young woman around 9 p.m. Saturday when they responded to several 911 calls from people who said they heard screaming and yelling coming from an apartment in the 400 block of Meloy Road.

Police have identified the suspect as 26-year-old Jevon Tyrese Fletcher, of New Haven.

They said he is suspected of stabbing his 19-year-old girlfriend and his son several times, then jumping out of the second-floor window.

Police have not identified the woman Fletcher is accused of killing, but a family friend identified her at 19-year-old Hailey Miller.

Miller’s family shared a statement online, remembering the 19-year-old who leaves behind a 3-year-old son, as “(a) hard-working mother, always looking to further her education/career. She was dedicated to giving her son the best life possible. A life filled with love and care. Hailey's bright spirit, kindness, and unwavering love for her child touched everyone who knew her.”

Fletcher was released from the hospital early Tuesday morning and he has been charged with two counts of murder, two counts of murder with special circumstance and risk of injury.

Bond has been set at $3 million.

Fletcher was in a brace and sitting in a wheelchair when he was arraigned on Tuesday and has been placed on suicide watch.

His next court date is March 13.
