Police have arrested a man who is accused of posing as a police officer and sexually assaulting a woman in Waterbury several years ago.
Detectives said they recently identified 33-year-old Niamkey Amichia as a suspect for a sexual assault that happened in Waterbury on Nov. 21, 2016.
According to court records, the woman posted an ad for sex on the website, Backpage. Amichia answered the ad and showed up at the woman's apartment around 5:30 p.m.
Amichia reportedly claimed he was the police before walking inside. He was wearing a neon yellow construction jacket and blue mechanic pants. He also had a notepad and "walkie talkie" with him.

Once inside, Amichia reportedly told the woman she was under arrest and walked through the apartment to check the rooms.
After that, court documents say Amichia zip tied the woman's hands behind her back and started talking into the radio asking for a "squad car."
Investigators said Amichia sexually assaulted the woman and then left a note on a piece of paper from his notepad with what appeared to be a Waterbury police officer's name and phone number on the woman's dresser.

He then cut the zip ties off of the woman's wrists and left through her front door. Authorities said Amichia walked down the street, tossed something onto the side of the road, got into his white pick-up truck and drove away.
Several items of evidence were found on the side of the road including another note.
During the investigation, police said a number of meetings were made with the victim to provide a statement, but each time she either did not show up or would cancel. At that time, the case was closed pending additional information/victim cooperation.
In January of this year, authorities said the Pierce County Sheriff's Department in Washington State were investigating an unrelated sexual assault involving Amichia.
The investigation in Washington State provided Waterbury Police Department with a DNA profile match for Amichia.
In addition to the DNA match, officials said the female victim in Washington State was able to identify a white pick-up truck and license plate that the suspect left in. Records showed the pick-up truck being registered to Amichia.
Authorities said they later determined Amichia was working as a police officer at Puyallup, Washington, Police Department when the sexual assault happened in Washington State. He was later arrested on a felony rape charge in connection to that incident.
Police were able to get an arrest warrant to charge Amichia in connection with the past sexual assault incident in Waterbury.
Last Friday, police from Waterbury extradited Amichia from Washington State to Waterbury, Conn. He is facing charges including home invasion, sexual assault, kidnapping, unlawful restraint and impersonation of a police officer.
Amichia was arraigned in court on Friday and is being held in the custody of the Connecticut Department of Corrections.
