State Environmental Conservation police have arrested a man accused of illegal hunting in a Meriden park, and are looking for several other people also believed to have hunted illegally in the area.
Department of Energy and Environmental Protection officials said police arrested 22-year-old Giovanni Carabetta on Tuesday. Carabetta is accused of hunting in Giuffrida Park on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22, 2017. Giuffrida Park is a large public park popular for its hiking trails. The City of Meriden does not allow hunting in the park.
Investigators also allege that Carabetta was not wearing 400-square inches of fluorescent orange during the hunted, which is required between Sept. 1 through the end of February, while hunting.
The investigation began on Thanksgiving when EnCon police officers found a hunting tree stand and other related items in the park.
Carabetta was charged with criminal trespass, interfering with an officer, hunting on private land without permission of the owner of such land, and failure to wear 400-square inches of orange while hunting.
EnCon police are still looking to identify several other people believed to have hunted in the park. The images were captured by trail cameras.
