Man Stole $90,000 in Electricity to Run Marijuana Operation: Cops

A Bronx, New York man is accused of stealing more than $90,000 in electricity to operate an illegal marijuana growing operation in West Haven.

Joel Polanco, 33, was arrested on May 29. The Drug Enforcement Agency and United Illuminating began investigations into Polanco after it was learned he was stealing the electricity to power a home on Third Avenue in West Haven, according to police.

Authorities found more than 360 marijuana plants inside the home, police said.

Polanco is facing first-degree larceny and several drug charges.
