Michael Skakel Files Another Appeal

Michael Skakel, the Kennedy cousin who was convicted for the 1975 murder of Martha Moxley, has filed another appeal late Monday regarding his 2002 conviction. This time he argues that his high-profile trial attorney is incompetent.

In an appeal filed in Rockville Superior Court, Skakel, the nephew of Robert F. Kennedy’s widow, Ethel Kennedy, states that his attorney Michael Sherman had significant financial problems and did not devote enough money to prepare the case.

Skakel also states Sherman did a poor job in closing arguments and with jury selection. His claim also says Sherman failed to challenge the star witness by finding witnesses who soon after rejected his claim that Skakel confessed to the murder.

Skakel, who is seeking a new trial, is serving 20 years to life in prison for fatally beating Martha Moxley in Greenwich when they were both 15.
