Milford Couple Rescued as Irene Floods Home

The storm ripped a wall and water spilled in.

Heroic rescue efforts in Milford saved the lives of a local couple who became stranded in their beach house as Irene pushed through.

Rescue workers came by boat to save Greg and Dianne Davenport during the height of this storm after 20-foot waves pounded their home, breaking a window and ripping the wall off the bathroom, sending water gushing in.

"It's pouring in the sides. It's pouring in the back,” Greg Davenport, of Milford, said. The floors were moving.

“I said we better get out of here," he said.

The couple called police for help and they are thankful this team pulled them and their 65-pound English bulldog, Bubba, to safety.

"It was like living through a science fiction - horror movie and it really was your problem not somebody else’s. It's the most frightened I've ever been in my whole life," Dianne Davenport said.

Like the Davenports, several residents along the shoreline are just beginning to get a handle on all of the damage and the cleanup is just getting underway.
