A dog was killed when a home in Glastonbury was destroyed by fire Sunday.
Glastonbury Fire Chief Michael Thurz said crews responded around 3:05 p.m. to a call for a house fire on Heritage Drive. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire on the first floor.
“It was a pretty intense fire on the first floor of the structure that extended to the remaining parts of the building," Thurz said.
Fire officials said one dog was killed in the fire. No one else was home at the time and no other injuries were reported.
Thurz said the damage was extensive and the home was deemed a total loss.
Crews from multiple departments including Hebron Fire, Bolton Fire, and Marlborough Volunteer Fire all responded to assist Glastonbury because there were no hydrants in the area.
“We’re in an area that’s non-hydrants so a lot of our water needs to come in on tankers which requires mutual aid, which requires trucks to drop loads of water on the fire scene and then retrieve more," Thurz said.
