NBC Connecticut is connecting you to joy this holiday season and making wishes come true through our annual wishing tree.
It’s about helping those who need it most and making the holidays a little brighter.
Doris Watrous nominated her husband of 51 years, Lenny, for the NBC Connecticut Wishing Tree.
"I just won the wishing true for a $500 gift card to Big Y and we’re so so grateful," Watrous said. "We’ve been through a lot, he has been through a lot."
Her husband has been battling tongue cancer, heart failure and is on dialysis.
"He means the world. We’ve been together a long time, we have three great kids, we have grandchildren and one great-grandchild who was born on Christmas day last year," Watrous said.
Lenny was chosen out of more than a thousand entries to receive a $500 gift card from Big Y.

"It’s something that we can use a little bit at a time, even though sometimes you feel like going in there and getting it all, but it’ll be a big help for us around the holidays," she said.
Five deserving people just found out they are wishing tree recipients. The prizes include a $1,000 gift card to Raymour and Flannigan and a $1,000 shopping experience to west farms.
"It’s so heartwarming to know the stories of the people that were nominated and we couldn’t be happier of who they’re going to," Westfarms spokeswoman, Amanda Sirica, said. "These people really are deserving."
