Teen in critical condition after 4 were shot in New Haven early Friday morning

The shooting happened near Church and Center streets around 3 a.m., hours after Halloween celebrations wrapped up.

Four people, a 19-year-old woman and three young men between 19 and 22 years old, were shot early Friday morning in downtown New Haven and the young woman is in critical condition.

Officers responded to reports of gunshots and a shooting victim in the 800 block of Chapel Street at 2:03 a.m. and found a 22-year-old Hamden man who had been shot.

He was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital.

Several officers who were responding to Chapel Street were flagged down because there was another gunshot victim on Church Street by Center Street.

There they found a 19-year-old West Haven woman who had been shot and was unresponsive, police said.

She was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital and remains in critical condition.

Police also found a 21-year-old Hamden man on Church Street who had been with the young woman and he had been shot as well, police said.

A fourth shooting victim, a 19-year-old New Haven man, later arrived at Yale-New Haven Hospital by private vehicle.

The injuries the men sustained are not life-threatening.

Police said detectives have determined the incident primarily occurred on Church Street by Center Street and two of the victims ran after the gunshots.

A firearm and ballistic evidence were found at the scene.
