86-year-old woman dead after apartment fire in Naugatuck

An elderly woman has died after being trapped in a burning apartment building in Naugatuck on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded to Oak Terrace on Conrad Street around 2:40 a.m.

A police officer who arrived first reported that smoke was coming from an apartment and a person could not get out, according to the fire department.

The fire department said an 86-year-old woman suffered burns and was taken to Waterbury Hospital, where she later died.

Firefighters put out the blaze, and no other residents were displaced.

The Naugatuck fire marshal’s office and the Office of the State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause and origin of the blaze.
