Woman dead in snowmobile crash in Stafford

A woman died in a snowmobile crash in Stafford on Wednesday.

State police responded to Old Springfield Road just after 3:30 p.m. for a reported accident involving a snowmobile.

The operator of the snowmobile, identified as 48-year-old Jamie Gallicchio, of Ellington, was thrown from the machine and sustained serious injuries, according to state police.

She was flown by LifeStar helicopter to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford where she died, state police said.

A passenger on the snowmobile sustained minor injuries and refused treatment.
