A 37-year-old New Haven man has serious injuries after he was hit by a car in New Haven Tuesday night and police said the driver who hit him fled the scene.
Police believe the man who was struck had gotten out of a parked car near his home on Sherman Avenue and was crossing the street in the middle of the block, between Elm Street and Whalley Avenue when he was hit by a silver Honda just before 9 p.m.
A 40-year-old New Haven woman heard the man being struck, went to him and started CPR when she found no pulse, police said.
Crews from the New Haven Fire Department and American Medical Response arrived, started to treat the man, and an ambulance transported the pedestrian to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition, police said.

The Honda hit the man near the double yellow street lines. kept going Sherman Avenue, then turned left and went west on Whalley Avenue toward Winthrop Avenue, according to police.
They described the vehicle as a silver Honda Accord from the early- to mid-2000s. It is missing the driver-side mirror and might have damage to the front driver-side area.
