The 33-year-old man wounded in an officer-involved shooting on the Maple Street Bridge in Ansonia has been charged with assault, reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer and motor vehicle offenses.
Maurice "Mo" Beall, of Reservoir Avenue in Seymour, was charged Sunday after his release from the hospital. Police said Beall is a convicted felon and is well known to officers.
He received non-life threatening injuries after a police chase led to an officer-involved shooting in Ansonia on Saturday, police said.
According to authorities, Ansonia police officer Joe Jackson responded to the area of the Maple Street Bridge around 2 p.m. after Beall reportedly left the scene of an accident.
Police said Jackson arrived to see Beall driving away, but managed to stop the car and remove Beall from the driver's seat.
Police said Beall assaulted Jackson, got back in the car and drove off. He accelerated toward Jackson, who fired his gun.

Beall left the the scene and drove about a mile down the road to East 9th Street in Derby, according to police. He was transported to Yale-New Haven hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Jackson was taken to Griffin Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was released in good condition, according to police.
Beall was released from the hospital today. He was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with a police officer, assault on a police officer and motor vehicle offenses.
He has been previously convicted of assault and narcotics charges, according to police.
Beall was held on a $500 bond and is due in court Feb. 3.
The State Police Major Crime Unit is investigating.
