Police ID teen killed in New Haven shooting in November

NBC Connecticut

Police have identified the teen who was killed in a shooting in New Haven on Nov. 22.

Uzziah Shell was shot near Goffe Street just after 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22 and he was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he died from the injuries, police said.

A bullet also struck a school bus and no one on board was hurt.

The New Haven school district said Shell went to Riverside Academy, and his death was the result of "senseless gun violence."

"Uzziah was a member of our ‘family,’ and as such has left a tremendous void. As a student, Uzziah was always engaged and eager to learn, but moreover, as a young man, he exuded charisma, respect and an unassuming demeanor which was always led by an infectious smile," Principal Derek Stephenson said.

Stephenson went on to say that Shell will be forever missed and remembered by family, friends, the community and more.

"As we mourn this monumental loss, we find solace knowing he will always live in our hearts, as an indelible mark has been left on all who knew and loved him," Stephenson said.

Police ask anyone who saw the shooting or who has information valuable to investigators to call detectives at 203-946-6304 or the department's anonymous tip-line at 866-888-TIPS (8477).
