Police are conducting an investigation in West Hartford relating to a shooting involving an officer.
West Hartford police said they responded to a call about a shooting involving a police officer around 5 p.m. Tuesday. There is an active police investigation around the 900 block of New Britain Ave.
There were damaged vehicles visible at the scene Tuesday night. State police and the Office of the Inspector General are involved in the investigation.

"This is a really busy street, so people are shopping all the time, and all this going on, people got scared," said Sang Chanthavong, who works at a nearby auto shop.
Chanthavong said he rarely hears of situations like this in town.
"Talked to other people saying I've been hear 30, 40 years. I never see this happen," Chanthavong said. "It could happen anywhere. Anywhere, any town, any time, I guess, in this day in age."

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area. Police said there is no active threat to the public.
As of late Tuesday night, the road was still closed between New Park Avenue and Hillcrest Avenue.
No additional information was immediately available.
