Bomb threats force evacuations of Walmart, Stop & Shop in Naugatuck

NBC Connecticut

Two businesses in Naugatuck have reopened to the public after bomb threats briefly evacuated the buildings on Monday afternoon.

The first bomb threat was received by an employee at Walmart on New Haven Road around 3:45 p.m. Police said the caller said a bomb was located in the bathroom and was set to go off in two minutes.

The Walmart was quickly evacuated and bomb detection K9s from Connecticut State Police were brought in. Authorities said the K9s searched the area and did not find any bombs or explosive devices.

Walmart was cleared at approximately 5 p.m. and normal business operations have resumed.

While police were at Walmart, an employee at Stop & Shop on Rubber Avenue reportedly called police and said they had also received a bomb threat by phone.

Police said dispatchers also received another call where someone claimed a bomb was in the bathroom at Stop & Shop and they were armed with a gun.

The Stop & Shop was also evacuated while Connecticut State Police bomb detection K9s went through the store. Stop & Shop was cleared around 5:45 p.m. and has since resumed normal business operations.
