Five Students Taken to Hospital After School Bus Crash in Guilford

Injuries reported after a school bus carrying Guilford High School students was involved in a crash with a pickup in the 5000 block of Durham Road in Guilford and part of the road is closed.

Five Guilford High School students and a school bus driver were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries after the and a pickup collided near 4700 of Durham Road in Guilford around 7 a.m. Friday.

Police said nine students were on the bus when the pickup "impacted the school bus on the left side, causing the rear of the school bus to rotate off the roadway and strike a large tree." 

One student who was on the bus said she was heading to her last day of 11th grade and she was thrown inside the bus because of the crash.

The driver of the pickup refused medical treatment, according to police. He was the only person in the truck.

Police asked drivers to avoid the area and to use Route 79 in Madison as an alternate, but the road is reopening.

Police are investigating the crash and said they believe there is video from the school bus.
