A 15-year-old is in critical condition after crashing a stolen car into a telephone pole in New Haven early Thursday morning and another person who was in the car ran from the scene, according to police.
Officers responded to Quinnipiac Avenue near Hemingway Street around 3:02 a.m. after getting a report that a car hit a pole and there were major injuries.
When they arrived at the scene, they found a Hyundai Elantra down an embankment and crews pulled the teen from New Haven from the vehicle.
He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition, police said.

Another person was reported to have gotten out of the car and run from the scene, according to police.
They said the vehicle’s ignition had been tampered with and they learned that the car had been stolen.
The Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene.
