What if you woke up one morning and found out you were related to soon-to-be royalty? It happened to one Connecticut women.
Susanna Salk answered a phone call last week, and on the other end of the line was a researcher from the New England Genealogical Society. They asked her a couple of questions about her background, only revealing that she was related to someone famous.
The television program “Inside Edition” followed up the phone call with one of their own, and asked her if they could come to her home and surprise her and her family with the news of just who her famous relative was.
The program and a researcher showed up with a chart that showed Salk is a 15th cousin once removed of Kate Middleton, the soon-to-be wife of Prince William.
“It feels fabulous,” exclaimed Salk. “I guess it’s one of those things where it really doesn’t sound real.”
Salk says it’s been an exciting few days for her, her husband, and her two sons. She did say that she thinks if she had daughters they would be even more thrilled.
The latest family connection just adds to an already impressive family tree. Salk is married to the nephew of Jonas Salk, the man who discovered the polio vaccine.
Salk says that she won’t be waking up at 4 a.m. to watch the wedding but she will have it recorded on her DVR.
As for her invitation to the wedding? “I’m a little sad that one has not been Fedexed,” Salk said jokingly. “I was expecting my seat next to Elton John and Queen Elizabeth.”
