
Fire caused damage to several businesses in downtown Stamford early Friday morning and two firefighters suffered minor injuries while working to put it out.
Firefighters responded to 184 Bedford St. at 4:50 a.m. after a fire alarm went off and found smoke coming from the first floor of Chez Vous Bistro Restaurant at 188 Bedford St., according to the fire department.
The fire was in a two-story commercial building that houses several businesses, including Whim Women’s Clothing, Atelier Valoar Couture clothing, Women’s Business Development Council and Deco Fine Arts and Framing, as well as the French restaurant.
Fire officials said a large amount of fire was found in the walls and ceiling and extended to the second floor and roof, as well as the other businesses on the first floor.

Additional alarms were added, bringing eight engines, three ladder trucks, a rescue, two deputy chiefs with 52 personnel, as well as administrative chiefs, safety officers, mechanics and fire marshals.
Utilities to the building were shut down and Stamford Police closed Bedford Street at Broad Street until around 10 a.m.
The two injured firefighters have been released after a medical evaluation, according to the fire department.
