Driver accused of hitting woman in Windham charged with DUI, leaving the scene

A man who is accused of hitting a woman on Route 32 in Windham with his car Wednesday night has been charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene, according to state police.

State troopers said the 44-year-old woman was crossing Windham Road when she was hit just before 7:30 p.m.

and the driver left the scene.

The woman was taken to Windham Hospital, then flown to Hartford Hospital.

State police said her injuries were believed to be serious injuries and they were later determined not to be life-threatening.

Willimantic police found the suspected driver at his home and he was charged with evading the accident scene and being under the influence, state police said.
