A deadly crash on Route 44 near the Norfolk-North Canaan line on Friday night sparked a brush fire and crews are still working to extinguish it. The area is expected to remain closed for a significant amount of time.
Authorities said Route 44 is closed in both directions.
State police said they were called to the area after a tree fell on top of a car, which then crashed into a utility pole. Two people were injured, one of which was taken to the hospital by a LifeStar helicopter.
One of the two people injured has died, according to police. Troopers said the death was caused by "an act of nature," and there is no suspected criminal aspect to the investigation. The person's identity has not been released.

Crews said a tree took down power lines, which caused a brush fire in two different locations. About two acres caught fire.
Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.
