Route 44 is closed near the Norfolk-North Canaan line because of a serious motor vehicle crash that resulted in a brush fire Friday evening.
Authorities said the road is closed in both directions. Several agencies are responding to the scene.
State police said they were called to the area after a tree fell on top of a car, which then crashed into a utility pole. Two people were injured, one of which was taken to the hospital by a LifeStar helicopter.
One of the two people injured has died, according to police. Troopers said the death was caused by "an act of nature," and there is no suspected criminal aspect to the investigation.
