A deadly crash on Route 44 near the Norfolk-North Canaan line on Friday night sparked a brush fire and crews worked for hours to extinguish it.
Route 44 was closed in both directions for several hours overnight and into Saturday morning. The area has since reopened.
State police said they were called to the area after a tree fell on top of a car, which then crashed into a utility pole. Two people were injured, one of which was taken to the hospital by a LifeStar helicopter.
One of the two people injured has died, according to police. Troopers said the death was caused by "an act of nature," and there is no suspected criminal aspect to the investigation. The person's identity has not been released.
