Man dead after motorcycle crash on Route 72 East in Plainville

A 23-year-old man has died after a reported motorcycle crash on Route 72 East in Plainville Thursday afternoon.

State police said a car and motorcycle collided at about 12:15 p.m. Authorities said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been identified as Peter Mark Bienasz, 23, of Plainville, troopers said.

Police said the motorcycle rear-ended a car, veered into the left shoulder and crashed into a metal beam guardrail.

The highway was closed for several hours between exits 4 and 2, but has since reopened.

The driver and passenger in the car were not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
