Police ID 21-year-old man killed in shooting in New Haven

A 21-year-old man who was shot in New Haven on Wednesday afternoon has died, according to the mayor.

A 21-year-old man who was shot in New Haven on Wednesday afternoon has died.

The man was on a dirtbike in the area of Ferry Street and Wolcott Street when the shooters drove up in a car just after noon and fired three shots, hitting the victim, Niygere L. Wicker, in the head, according to officials.

Police said the driver appeared to be following Wicker.

Wicker later died at the hospital.

The mayor said the victim was known to police and he was involved in some other incidents in the city.

This was the 10th homicide in the city this year. There had been 17 at this time last year.
