A woman accused of violently attacking a Hartford police officer was in the process of being evicted, according to police and court documents.
Hartford police have identified 39-year-old Chevoughn Augustin, a resident of the ninth floor, as the suspect. Her attorney said Augustin has a son and a 3-month-old grandchild and does not have a criminal record.
The NBC Connecticut Troubleshooters obtained court documents that show that the building's management was attempting to evict Augustin from the apartment where she has lived since December 2017.
The legal documents, filed in Superior Court, demand Augustin vacate the property, citing allegations that she has disrupted her neighbors' enjoyment of the building and landlord business operations by "wandering the common halls aimlessly very late at night; sleeping on the common room couch, confronting other residents in a hostile way in the elevators making them fear for their safety.”
The management company also alleges that she accused their staff of stealing her food and refusing to meet with them to discuss her behavior.
Augustin responded to that complaint, arguing she was facing fair housing discrimination. In court documents, she said the allegations could not be substantiated and that she's a long-serving member of the Hartford community with not only personal but also excellent professional references.

The management company is denying Augustin’s claims.
Augustin was arrested after the stabbing of the police officer and was charged with criminal attempted murder, first-degree assault, assault on a police officer, and third-degree criminal mischief. She is being held without bond.
The Hartford police officer, Jill Kidik, a 12-year-veteran, remains in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit at Hartford Hospital. On Friday morning, she opened her eyes and is alert, according to police.
