Person dead, another has serious burns after suspicious fire in Thompson

A person has died and a man was found with serious injuries during an investigation into a suspicious fire in Thompson that also destroyed a home and vehicles, according to state police.

State troopers responded to a house fire on Quaddick Town Farm Road in Thompson around 10:55 p.m. on Wednesday and the local fire marshal asked for help from detectives from the Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, according to state police.

They determined that the fire was suspicious and detectives from the Eastern District Major Crime Squad also responded to the scene.

Early Thursday morning, hours into the investigation, a man with serious burn injuries was found around 200 feet into the woods on the property, according to state police. LifeStar was called to fly him to a hospital.

Another person was found dead inside of the home. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) is conducting an autopsy, and the person's identity is unknown at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and the area around the scene of the fire has been cordoned off.
