One dead following three-car crash on I-91 in Rocky Hill on Friday night

Officials say three cars rolled over, and one was completely on fire.

A woman from Bloomfied has died after being injured in a multi-vehicle incident in Rocky Hill, according to state police.

On Friday night, fire officials in Rocky Hill said multiple people were injured following a crash on I-91 southbound on Friday night.

All lanes of the southbound portion of the highway were shut down on Friday night as police investigated the incident. The highway has since reopened.

According to the Rocky Hill Fire Department, three different vehicles all rolled over near exit 23. Officials say once of the vehicles was on fire when they arrived.

On Saturday, police said one vehicle veered into another lane, hitting another car and causing both to roll over.

The driver of the car that was hit, Jada Upshaw, 27, of Bloomfield, died as a result of her injuries according to Troopers.

A third car was also struck after the original two cars veered onto the highway. Troopers say 5 people in total were injured, and the other 4 individuals were treated for their injuries.

The say the crashes took place just before 9 p.m. on Friday night.

State Police say the driver of the vehicle that veered into the wrong late was arrested. The 23 year old man from Ellington is charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
