Torrington Man to Compete in Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

A Torrington man will be representing Connecticut in the 2019 Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Nick Wehry will be making his second appearance in the annual eating competition.

In order to qualify for the event, competitors must qualify in one of 16 qualifying events. Men and women from all around the world compete for one of 18 spots in each of the competitions.

Wehry earned his spot during the Cape Coral, Florida qualifier by eating 34 hot dogs and buns. He will be taking on defending champion Joey Chestnut who set a new world record last year by consuming 74 hot dogs and buns in only ten minutes.

The event is set to take place in Coney Island.

The Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest has taken place annually since 1916.

You can see Nick Wehry competing in the men’s division of The 2019 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4th at 12pm ET on ESPN.
