A Manchester man has been arrested, accused of an unusual and brutal assault involving a tree branch.
Officers were called to Myrtle and Main streets just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday. When they arrived, they found a male victim lying in the street with multiple "blunt force injuries" to his face.
After interviewing eyewitnesses, officers figured out that the victim had been hit several times with a large tree branch.
He was taken to Manchester Hospital, and then to Hartford Hospital to be treated for fractures to his eye-socket, cheek bone and jaw.
Police took the suspect, Zachary Apt, 20, into custody a short time later.
Apt faces assault charges as well as a charge of carrying a dangerous weapon. His bond was set at $500,000.
