Authorities said firefighting efforts were complicated by a ruptured fuel tank and an electric battery from the hybrid vehicle. It took about 25 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The driver was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The road was briefly closed throughout the night and into the evening. It has since reopened.
