It might be no surprise to many, but Connecticut residents tend to lean to the left. In fact, a new Gallup Poll shows Connecticut is the tenth most liberal state in the nation.
The survey asked residents in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. if they considered themselves conservative, liberal or moderate.
And 24 percent in Connecticut called themselves liberal. But what's interesting is that in such a blue state, more people consider themselves conservative in Connecticut than liberal.
Gallup polled people between Jan. 2 through June 2009 and found that 31percent in Connecticut said they were "total conservatives" compared to 24 percent who labeled themselves as "total liberals," and 42 percent considered themselves "moderates."
Alabama came in as the most conservative state with 49 percent calling themselves "total conservatives" and just 15 percent choosing "total liberal."
On the other end of the spectrum, Washington, D.C. was the most liberal, with 37 percent naming themselves "total liberals" and just 23 percent claiming to be "total conservatives." D.C. is the only place in the country where liberals outnumbered conservatives.
Connecticut's neighbors Massachusetts, Vermont, New York and New Jersey all made the top 10 liberal states list as well.
