Woman, 20, Killed in New Haven

Ashley Armstrong, 20, of Danbury, was found in a car.

New Haven police are investigating the second homicide in less than 12 hours.

Ashley Armstrong, 20, of Danbury, was found unresponsive in the driver's seat of a Volkswagen in front of 94 Shelton Ave. at 12:17 a.m. on Wednesday and died at the hospital.

Her family said she was an unintended target. She was a college student who worked two jobs and was visiting friends in or near New Haven on Wednesday night, they said.

“She was at the wrong place at the wrong time. This shouldn’t have happened,” Ashley's aunt, Angela Noel, said.

Few details about the shooting have been released. Police said she suffered head and face wounds, according to police.

Police said they found a crime scene in front of 84 Shelton Ave. and detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are investigating.

An ambulance transported Armstrong to the Hospital of St. Raphael's, where she was pronounced deceased at 12:37 a.m.

Ashley's uncle, Charles Armstrong, was woken up to the tragic news on Wednesday.

"I think she was visiting some friends. I think in New Haven or in one of the cities around New Haven -- just visiting," he said. "And, I think afterward, they may have gone partying, but she doesn’t drink.  She doesn’t do any drugs."

Police said four female passengers were in the car and none were struck.

Ashley Armstrong family's is hoping that police catch the person responsible and get some answers for Ashley’s mother.

"Her daughter was her life. It was just the two of them, and now I don’t know what she’s going to do," Charles said of Ashley's mother.

Chief Dean Esserman said the public provided valuable information.
