A woman was seriously injured in an assault in Meriden Thursday night and police said the suspect is being held on a prior violation of a protective order.
Police responded to Platt Avenue at 10:50 p.m. after receiving reports that a female was bleeding and needed medical attention and they found the victim with facial and head injuries.
Several people at the scene told police the victim had been shot, but officers determined that was not the case.
A weapon was found, but turned out to be a facsimile BB gun and police said it doesn’t appear to have been used to cause the victims’ injuries.
After investigating, police believe they know who committed the assault and he is being held at the Meriden Police Department. Police said there is an active warrant for his arrest for the violation of a protective order.
Police said the suspect and the victim have a tumultuous domestic history and the warrant stems from a previous domestic dispute.
The suspect was also charged with another count of violation of a protective order stemming from last night’s incident and will be arraigned today at the Meriden Superior Court.
