Woodbury police officer stabbed in the neck during traffic stop: state police

A Woodbury police officer was stabbed in the neck during a traffic stop on Thursday afternoon was rushed to the hospital, according to state police.

Officer Tim Wright, who is assigned to the Woodbury Resident Trooper’s Office, made a traffic stop on North Main Street in Woodbury around 1:24 p.m.

The driver turned off North Main Street onto a side street and stopped.

The driver got out of the vehicle and fought with the officer before stabbing him in the neck, police said.

Officer Wright activated the emergency button on his radio and several other officers were at the scene in minutes. They were able to take the suspect into custody after using a stun gun on him, according to state police.

A state police sergeant rushed Officer Wright to Waterbury Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was also taken to the hospital. He has since been released and is in state police custody.
