Docs Watched Game While Patient Suffered Painful Erection: Lawsuit

Bus driver sues Yale-New Haven Hospital over alleged lack of treatment.

A bus driver is suing Yale-New Haven Hospital, saying staff at an affiliated facility failed to promptly treat a painful erection and watched a baseball game on television while he waited.

Daren Scott of Brockton, Massachusetts, is seeking $2 million in his federal lawsuit against the hospital.

The lawsuit says Scott was diagnosed before the incident with recurrent priapism, a persistent painful erection unrelated to sexual stimulation.

Scott said he checked into an emergency medical facility affiliated with the hospital around 8:30 p.m. on April 17, 2009 and explained he was in great pain but was told to wait.

He said staff, including physicians, watched a baseball game.

Scott said he was later taken to the hospital by ambulance and waited another four hours for treatment.

According to court documents, Scott remained in pain for several months and claims failure to treat him properly led to a "permanent exacerbated urological problem."

The hospital denies the allegations, saying Scott was negligent in failing to seek immediate treatment.
