TSN's video review of the Top 10 plays of the 2008-09 NHL regular season is a hockey-smart list: Goalie love, via a couple of miraculous saves by Marty Turco of the Dallas Stars and Miikka Kiprusoff of the Calgary Flames; a terrific passing play by the Detroit Red Wings; and especially the inclusion of that quirky "double game-winner" by Chris Campoli (then of the New York Islanders), which had skipped our minds.
Best of all: Both of Mike Ribeiro's impressive but ultimately hot-dogging shootout goals are grouped under the same number, in the interest of time spent on real hockey plays. From TSN, via DayWalk3r:
Wonder how long the debate over No. 1 on the list lasted ...
As you see, there is a Johan Franzen goal in the video, in which he undressed Montreal Canadiens defenseman Ryan O'Byrne before scoring on the backhand. It's just not the Johan Franzen goal of the season, which was that Superman effort against the St. Louis Blues earlier this month. How does that not make the cut, or at least warrant the Ribeiro double-highlight treatment?
Take a gander; any quibbles? It's hard seeing that Richard Zednik goal buried so deep, but the competition was pretty fierce this season.
