The UConn men's basketball team joined the Connecticut women's basketball team as the No. 1 ranked team in the country Monday. This is the first time both UConn teams have been ranked No.1 at the same time since 2004 when they won the both won the national championship.
This is the fourth straight week there's a new No. 1 in men's college basketball.
Connecticut jumped from No. 2 to the top spot in The Associated Press' Top 25 Monday, replacing Duke. This is the Huskies' first time at No. 1 since 2006.
The last three No. 1s all remained in the top seven: No. 6 Pittsburgh, No. 7 Wake Forest and No. 4 Duke. The Blue Devils lost last week to Wake Forest on a last-second shot.
Connecticut received 64 first-place votes from the 72-member national media panel. Oklahoma was No. 1 on five ballots.
North Carolina moved from fifth to third in the rankings. Completing the top 10 were Duke, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Marquette, Xavier and Clemson.
Meantime, Connecticut remains in a class by itself atop the AP women's college basketball poll.
The Huskies were a unanimous No. 1 for the 10th straight week Monday following a rout of then-No. 6 Louisville last Monday and an easy win over Georgetown on Saturday.
UConn is 21-0 and the lone unbeaten women's team, topping its opponents by an average of 34 points per game. On Tuesday, the Huskies face Big East rival Rutgers, which fell out of The Associated Press rankings last week.
Oklahoma held steady at No. 2 after its win at Baylor last week. The Sooners were hosting No. 12 Tennessee on Monday night as Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt goes for her 1,000th victory.
California, Duke, and Louisville rounded out the top five.
