Torri Huske, Regan Smith, Lilly King and Gretchen Walsh win gold in the women’s 4x100m medley relay and set a new world record. Team USA finished 3.48 seconds ahead of Australia.

Gretchen Walsh ended her first Olympics on Sunday by adding one more gold medal to her collection.

Walsh was part of Team USA's women's 4x100 medley relay along with Regan Smith, Lilly King, and Torri Huske.

The Americans set a new world record, finishing with a time of 3:49.63.

Australia took the silver and China won the bronze.

Walsh, who grew up in Greenwich, swam the butterfly leg of the medley with a split time of 55.03. That time is faster than the world record time of 55.18 for the women's 100m butterfly Walsh set in June during the Olympic trials in Indianapolis.

The medley relay wasn't the only event for Walsh on Sunday.

Just an hour earlier, she swam in the final of the women's 50m freestyle. She came into the final having posted a 24.17 in her semifinal heat on Saturday. It was the second fastest time of any of the swimmers in the semifinal.

Team USA's Gretchen Walsh missed the podium in the women's 50m freestyle by one-one hundredth of a second.

On Sunday, Walsh appeared to briefly have the lead in the sprint of one length of the pool, but Sweden's Sarah Sjoestroem, the world and Olympic record holder, pulled ahead and finished first with a time of 23.71.

Meg Harris, of Australia, took the silver and China's Zhang Yufei won the bronze.

Walsh finished fourth with a time of 24.21.

Walsh will leave Paris with the gold medal in the women's 4x100 medley relay, a gold medal in the mixed 4x100 medley relay, and silver medals in the women's 100m butterfly and the women's 4x100 freestyle relay.
