A storm that moved in Tuesday evening brought heavy rain and gusty winds to most of the state overnight and into the day Wednesday and several schools are delayed or closed. There is a possible dam break on the Yantic River and several roads are closed because of flooding.

Any lingering snow Tuesday afternoon transitioned to rain and it poured overnight.
The melting snow and pouring rain are creating problems across the state.

Eversource is reporting around 2,600 power outages on Wednesday morning and Norwich Public Utilities was reporting around 3,800 power outages at one point. As of 6:44 a.m., there were 1,800 outages. One was the result of a car hitting a pole on Route 82 near Walmark. That is causing 1,400 outages and there are around 400 outages in the area of Otrobando Avenue.
Eversource President of Electric Operations in Connecticut Steve Sullivan said that with the ground being saturated from snow melting and anticipated heavy rain, trees could come down easily.
Eversource said 1,100 line and tree crews were ready to respond to issues across the state. They'll clear blocked roads, restore power to critical facilities, regular customers and more. A majority of crews will be stationed in the eastern part of the state.
United Illuminating said it would have 240 line and tree workers ready to restore power to customers along the shoreline.
A flood watch was issued for the entire state, and there's a coastal flood warning for east of Old Saybrook on Wednesday morning.
In addition to the heavy rain, wind gusts were expected to start out around 40 miles per hour and could reach up to 55 mph.
The wind gusts could last through midday Wednesday. As a result, Eversource has activated its emergency response plan.
The power company said Tuesday's storm appeared to be similar to the storm that hit on Dec. 17 and 18, knocking out power to approximately 200,000 customers. Eversource said they anticipated Tuesday's storm to result in a multi-day power restoration.
The rain will taper off on Wednesday morning. Highs on Wednesday will be in the 50s.
