Record broken for heat as hot weather continues

NBCUniversal Media, LLC

We are officially in a heat wave as the temperature broke a record on Wednesday and we are in for another hot day on Thursday.

We've had lots of sunshine, hot temperatures and moderate humidity on Wednesday.

NBC Connecticut

The record for the Hartford area for Wednesday was 95 degrees, set in 1995 and the temperature reached 97, breaking the record by two degrees.

However, the feels-like temperatures were as high as 101 inland and in the lower 90s at the beach.

We’ll have more of the same today.

Heat advisories and air quality alerts have been issued.

People headed to the beach on Wednesday and the CTRoads.org website said that Hammonasset State Park and Rocky Neck State Park reached capacity yesterday.

Several cities and towns have set up cooling centers for people to get out of the heat. You can find that information online here or call 211.

Friday will feature some afternoon and evening thunderstorms and they could be strong.

We will have less heat, but rough humidity through the weekend and isolated storms each day.
