Seasonal end to week before weekend rain chances

Expect a lot of sunshine through Thursday with temperatures warming into the middle to upper 30s by the afternoon.

While the rest of the workweek stays seasonal, temperatures are set to rise through the weekend. Highs by Sunday will be widespread 50s across much of the state.

Clouds increase late Friday ahead of the chance for rain showers this weekend. A few showers are possible on Saturday, but the best chance for widespread, heavy rain will be late Sunday into early Monday.

It's also worth noting that if this system can roll in early Saturday morning, freezing rain could fall over northern Connecticut. We'll keep an eye on that and update you as need be.

Rainfall totals could be anywhere from 0.5-1.5 inches through Monday night. If showers are spread out evenly from Saturday through Monday, this rain could be beneficial for us, as much of the state is still in a severe drought.

Models indicate that most of Connecticut should stay dry through Tuesday (New Year's Eve), but another rain system could make its way into southern New England as early as Tuesday night--as we're ringing in 2025. We'll track rain chances through New Year's Day, as well.
